You told me I smelled of strawberries
and looked beautiful in the sun
grasping through the open window.
Then conversation turned abruptly
and you confessed that you were
betrothed to another.
The body reacted before the brain
could conceive.
Such an unexpected reaction of
lust and regret.
I was a big bird in a small cage.
Then freed by the beauty in
your words and the touch so
serene.
You remind me of possibility,
how can I be asked to let that go?
Please don't ask.
I watched you enter the orange room
and the din disappeared. Your people
were there as were mine but all went
with the depth in your eyes.
Timing kept us apart and now circumstance,
so what now lover? Can you come over?
I will swim in your eyes, feast on your flesh
and drown in your words.
The you will return to the one before me
and I will be bones and skin and nothing
no more.
